A Christman story

 Famous Holiday Tradition

    As the leaves fall and the trees become bare, Christmas decorations start to break out of storage to cover peoples houses. Driving through neighborhoods seeing a soft yellow light coming from the leg lamp peaking through the front window. Showing people's love for the very popular holiday move The Christmas Story. The film was created in the year 1983 and written by Bob Clark. The film cast did a great job at "embraces the chaos that comes with every family"(1). When the film just came out most fans were questioning the film, but others stated "it's about being a kid, plain and simple. Growing up, doing stupid stuff with your friends, sticking it to the school bully, trying to impress the teacher"(2).  Many people would say this movie made their childhood. 

Christmas Story Lamp (6)

The Christmas story is known for the leg lamp that was in the living room of the home. This lamp is very special to fans around the world as it is "one of the most iconic and recognizable movie props of all time"(3). The lamp itself was discovered in 1966 in a shepherd's novel, titled My Old Man. Overtime as the generations grew so did number of lamps being made each year. The lamp has become so famous over the years that there is now different types of merchandise like mugs, T-shirts, ornaments, etc., with a picture of the lamp on them. There is now a 40 foot sculpture in Chickasha where you may go to visit to get a closer look details on the sculpture. 

Many people may not know that the Christmas story house was built in 1895 in Cleveland Ohio, but it was not till ten years later that it was bought and restored to become the museum and now a tourist attraction today. Thanks to "Superman Brian Jones" (4) who bought the house and "restore both the inside and outside to look exactly how it did in the movie"(4) many other superfine would have never gotten an opportunity to walk through their favorite Christmas house. 

Far-geel-lay (7)

As the holidays are just around the corner keep your eye out for all the different traditions that may happen around you that come from the Christmas Story. Each year the fan base grows bigger and bigger. People pick up on something new each time they watch the film even if its something small  like " Far-geel-lay"(5) when the character is trying to read fragile. Many fans may agree with this statement when I say the Christmas Story is one of the most known holiday movies.
